Learning goals

This course addresses the fundamentals of portfolio construction theory and its possible applications, as well as the limitations of real estate portfolios.

The course will look at real estate investment strategies against the backdrop of the macroeconomy and property market cycles, providing insight on how to take a multi-asset approach using real-life examples. The course will also address the role of debt in a real estate portfolio and consider important strategic issues such as developments, fees, risk strategies and manager selection, with an opportunity to examine these topics with senior industry leaders.

The course will cover the following topics:

  • Theory and practice
  • Investor approaches
  • How to build the optimal portfolio
  • Fund manager selection
  • The impact of leverage and fees

This course counts towards the INREV/Henley Certificate for Non-listed Real Estate Investments. It is a mandatory course for the Portfolio Management stream and an elective course for the Corporate Finance stream.
