Dutch real estate investor Altera Vastgoed and construction firm BAM Wonen are working together to make Altera's 1980s residential property portfolio more sustainable.
BAM Wonen is applying innovative methods to reduce gas and electricity consumption for residents, such as maximum CO2 reduction.
The first project in this collaboration is to upgrade 31 rental units on Evert van Dijkpad and Parmentierpad in Sassenheim, province of South Holland.
This will involve roof and ground insulation, replacing existing windows with triple glazing, and fitting the units with a new balanced ventilation system with heat recovery.
Upgrading the insulation and ventilation will reduce gas consumption by 17,330 cubic metres per year and annual CO2 emissions by 31,000 kilograms, providing residents with greater living comfort and lower energy consumption.
Scheduled maintenance has been brought forward to coincide with the renovation work.
BAM Wonen is using drones and smartphones to scan the units, providing 3D models that speed up both the preparation and realisation phases.
Work will start in October 2023 and completion is scheduled for early 2024.
This project is part of Altera's wider sustainability strategy, which aims to make its portfolio Paris Proof by 2040 at the latest.
